Equipment

Although Smartboards are costly pieces of equipment (around €4000 each), I think that these would be a great help and motivator in the FL classroom.  It can be used as a white board and has monitor functions. Information from the session can be saved and e-mailed to the students. If classroom time is short, you can start where you left off the next session withough having to re-write everything from the previous session. It is an all-round time saver. No need to have extra screens and beamers, etc., it is all-in-one. For this reason, I would have to say that 2 would be a helpful addition for the upper and lower levels. The remaining €2000 could be used for a Technology Corner, with flatscreen (€500), projector (€850), Blu-Ray player (€100), CD-player (€50) and a digital video camera (€500).

This is quite a difficult decision. A super deluxe computer/language laboratory or Smartboards for 10 classrooms. Again, the question arises as to whether a Smartboard is, indeed, 'needed' in the classroom. I think that it would be a benefit to the school to have more than 2 Smartboards, as we saw at the Martin Luther Schule in Marburg.  To give more students and teachers the ability to use this new technology in various subjects could expand and improve the learning experience, no only in methodology, but in the possibility to tap into more resources.  I have decided for the Smartboard route.  If 10 Smartboards were purchased at €4000 each, then we'd still have €10,000 left over for 5 Technology Corners (see above) for remaining classrooms not supplied a Smartboard.
